Mercedes-Benz to Sell the C 350 Plug-In Hybrid in Fall
Mercedes-Benz is known as a leading innovator in the automotive industry. To keep that reputation going, it will offer a Plug-In Hybrid C 350 this fall in the United States. The C-Class is already a popular option for those seeking a sleek vehicle. The addition of the C 350 Hybrid will increase the number of models within the class, which currently offers the C 300 sedan and C 400 4MATIC® sedan, providing more options for Mercedes-Benz drivers.
Part of a Larger Plan
If plans to introduce this powerful and efficient hybrid weren’t impressive enough, the C 350 Plug-In Hybrid will be only one of the many plug-in hybrids the manufacturer plans to release within the next couple of years. In fact, it expects to launch 10 plug-ins before the end of 2017. Previously, you could only find the advanced Mercedes-Benz hybrid technology in the S-Class, where it recently premiered. Thomas Weber, who is a Daimler AG board member of Mercedes-Benz car development and group research, said that the brand views this plug-in hybrid as a way to invest in the future of the company. The company is optimistic that the technology used to develop and produce this highly efficient vehicle will earn the designation as the most successful method for maximizing efficiency. This technology continues to deliver the powerful dynamic performance drivers expect from a Mercedes-Benz.
Underneath the Hood
The secret powerhouse behind the C 350 Plug-In Hybrid is a 2-liter 4-cylinder gas engine that works with an electric motor (80 horsepower). This combination will give drivers 275 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque. That is more than enough for the average driver, particularly those looking to own a plug-in hybrid. There is also a lithium-ion battery, which is high voltage and has a capacity of 6.2 kilowatt-hours. This water-cooled battery is 220 pounds and sits below the rear axle in specialty sheet-steel housing. By placing the battery here, Mercedes-Benz improved on vehicle handling, trunk space, and crash safety. Mercedes-Benz says that this hybrid will be able to deliver the same performance as a sports car, and the numbers verify this. The impressive fuel efficiency means you don’t have to sacrifice environmental friendliness for power, or vice versa.
Mercedes-Benz engineers produced the best possible range for the C 350 hybrid. The result is a sedan that can travel nearly 20 miles (an estimated 18.6) when it is in electric mode. This means that it is now possible to drive a luxury car around Huntington Station or anywhere on Long Island without using an ounce of gasoline or producing any harmful emissions. Those who desire a luxury vehicle that is fuel-efficient but offers the ability to maximize performance will view perfection in the C 350 plug-in. Much of this is due to its ability to go from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.9 seconds and reach 130 mph.
A Thrilling Drive
An unexpected experience for plug-in hybrid drivers, the Mercedes-Benz C 350 also offers a thrilling ride. There are five transmission modes so you can be in complete control of the drive feel. Simply select Economy, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, or Individual and be on your way. There are even four engine modes to let you customize the balance of electric and gas energy.
All the Features of a Mercedes-Benz
For many people, the idea of plug-in hybrid that can compete with sports cars is impressive. When you factor in the fact that the C 350 is a Mercedes-Benz and comes with luxury features found in any other model from this manufacturer, it becomes the perfect vehicle. Although not all the details have been released, we do know that there will be AIRMATIC® suspension, COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS, and ATTENTION ASSIST® as well as available LED headlamps and head-up display. This means that the C 350 Plug-In Hybrid will offer performance, fuel efficiency, and luxury for all drivers, with the ability to be emission-free around town.
